From Struggle to Gratitude: A Prayer to the Banana Plant

“We Almost Uprooted the Entire Banana Crop”

Loknath Reddy and Lakshminarayana Amma from Vemulapalli village, Anantapur district, were on the verge of destroying their banana plantation. After investing heavily and seeing severe yellowing, leaf drop, and dry rot symptoms, they were convinced the crop had failed. A tractor was ready to uproot everything.

Heavy Investment, Zero Results

Despite spending over ₹2 lakh on chemical fertilizers like DAP, potash, magnesium, and multiple sprays, the plants showed no improvement. Leaves dried up, growth stopped, and fellow farmers warned that even if bunches came, fruit size would be poor. Losses seemed inevitable after an already difficult financial year.

A Last Attempt After Watching YouTube

Before uprooting the crop, the family made one final attempt after watching a Gramabazaar video on YouTube. They contacted the team and were advised not to remove the plants. Nemzap was recommended at 3 litres per acre through drip irrigation during high soil moisture conditions.

Understanding the Real Problem: Nematodes

The issue was identified as nematode damage at the root level. These pests destroy roots from inside, blocking nutrient uptake. After Nemzap application, old damaged roots died off, and new healthy roots slowly emerged. Though results were not immediate, visible improvement started after 15–20 days.

Visible Transformation and Renewed Hope

Plants that were once yellow turned green, leaves grew larger, and overall plant strength improved dramatically. Encouraged by results, the farmer continued applications and added GrowthFit as advised. Healthy bunch formation followed, and fruit size improved. The family even performed a small puja, celebrating the crop’s recovery.

Lessons for Banana Farmers

The farmer now strongly advises preventive Nemzap application 20 days after planting, even if nematode damage is not visible. He also cautions against herbicide use in banana fields, explaining that chemical weed killers silently damage crops and soil health, reducing long-term productivity.

Farming Is Faith, Patience, and Right Guidance

With debts, children’s education expenses, and years of losses behind them, this recovery brought emotional relief as much as financial hope. “Even if we recover our investment, that itself is a victory,” the farmer says—urging others not to give up too soon and to focus on soil and root health.
